Religion in East Harlem

Transient and ever changing, East Harlem has comprised many different ethnic groups.  The area has been a holding zone for immigrant groups just arriving in New York, unable to move to the more elite and middle class suburban areas.  Religion has been culturally important to East Harlem, as the various ethnic groups settling in the area have left their religious beliefs instilled in the area.

The blending of different religions within East Harlem is just one attribute of the obvious diversity that is contained within such a small space.  Each group that settles within East Harlem seems to add to its cultural aspects, creating a heterogeneous society full of richness and a plethora of traditions.
